Journal Entries (Wednesday 30th October 2013)

From time to time, I will post some of my old entries from my journals. The beauty of journaling is that you get to reflect on what you did in the past. You get to relive memories and understand what it felt like.

Journal Entry October 30th, 2013

I’m definitely not where I wanted to be a year ago in terms of success. But I have a few things to be happy for. I have my family and the fact that I haven’t had a sickle cell crisis since 2011. I also found someone who may genuinely like me for who I am. She’s not exactly who I or my family would imagine me being with, but she makes me feel good about myself, and I enjoy spending time with her. I want to make her happy in return.

Today, I found out that someone I went to school with passed away. His name is Parys. It’s weird because earlier this year, I saw him for the first time in years. Perhaps since school. It was at the barbershop. He was playing some dope hip-hop songs on his phone. The same type of shit I listen to. We talked about school, music, and sickle cell. After he got his hair cut, he left, and I got in the barber chair.

Parys Okai, one of my school mates.

Life is precious. I never would have thought he would be gone months later. I still don’t know how he died, but it’s sad either way.

Each day has to count.
